Job summary

Atoms is seeking a senior professional to own and defend our safety case end-to-end across functional safety and fleet operations. You will lead formal safety reviews, construct CAE structures, and pair hazard analysis with scenario-based validation.

The role emphasizes rigorous data provenance and cross-functional collaboration to uphold safety standards. This onsite position in San Francisco offers a base salary range, equity, and a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• Author of record for a structured safety argument (GSN or CAE equivalent) on a production system.
• Mastery in safety analysis methods (e.g., HARA, FMEA, FTA) with scenario-based validation strategies.
• Rigorous data provenance and validation practices to avoid placeholders acquiring authority.
• Familiarity with ISO 26262, ISO 21448 (SOTIF), UL 4600, SAE J3016 as applied to scoped arguments.

Responsibilities

• Own the safety case end-to-end from drafting through sign-off and governance as upstream dependencies evolve.
• Architect argument boundaries, conditions, exclusions, and non-credible hazards within scope.
• Evaluate evidence sufficiency and data provenance with cross-functional partners to synthesize required evidence.
• Construct the CAE structure with clear validity boundaries for safety claims.
• Lead formal safety reviews and peer governance, ensuring evidence maturity before reviews.
• Improve shared methodologies and tooling, identify process gaps to prevent unsafe workarounds.
• Pioneer AI-assisted safety workflows, drafting from templates and stress-testing hazard sets.
