Job summary

Atoms is building real-world robots to power the next era of progress, with a focus on safety-critical autonomy and fleet operations. This role owns the defined safety case end-to-end, writes rigorous argumentation, and collaborates with safety, validation, and fleet teams to ensure robust hazard analysis and scenario validation in real-world environments.

The successful candidate will bring 7+ years in functional safety and autonomy, write precise documentation, and work onsite in San Francisco

Qualifications

• 7+ years across functional safety, autonomy behaviour and fleet operations.
• Authored a structured safety argument (GSN or equivalent).
• Hazard analysis ownership (HARA, FMEA, FTA).
• Scenario-based validation ownership.
• Proven provenance and labeling of measurements vs estimates.
• Ability to speak up and challenge unready arguments.
• Fluency with ISO 26262, ISO 21448 (SOTIF), UL 4600, SAE J3016.
• Python programming to work with fleet data and tooling.
• Exceptional written precision.

Responsibilities

• Own a defined safety case end to end, from first draft to signed, including upkeep when dependencies are revised.
• Define what the argument covers and exclusions, and the hazards that cannot arise within the scope.
• Judge evidence sufficiency with experience, coverage, and evidence source.
• Write the claim-argument-evidence map and be ready to defend.
• Convene reviewer work and document resolutions, as independent reviewer on owned scopes.
• Be a demanding customer of shared methods and tooling; push for robust, not local solutions.
• Use AI tooling to draft, test hazard sets, and trace hazards to tests and evidence.
