Job summary

Thomson Reuters is seeking a Senior Software Engineer II to lead high-impact projects across Core and Apps, shaping the platform that processes millions of pages daily. You will work primarily in Rust with C#/.NET services in front of it, driving scalable solutions for flagship products like Westlaw and CoCounsel.

You’ll mentor engineers, own production incidents, and contribute to design docs and ADRs to guide architecture and implementation decisions.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software development experience building and operating backend services in production in Rust or C++.
• Experience leading complex projects across teams and multi-region or highly available systems.
• Experience designing features with privacy and compliance requirements in mind, and building those requirements into code.
• Deep distributed-systems expertise: message queues, idempotency, backpressure, retries and timeouts, autoscaling.

Responsibilities

• Turn requirements into clear functional and technical specs with acceptance criteria.
• Design architecture of services deployed on Azure and determine boundaries between services.
• Identify bottlenecks using production metrics and benchmarks to optimize latency and throughput.
• Develop and run end-to-end processing pipelines, ensuring scalability and reliability.
• Evolve contracts safely with additive changes and backward compatibility.
