Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Remote Substation Engineer to lead protection and control projects from Birmingham, AL, collaborating with in-house and client engineers to ensure reliable substation performance.

You will set relays, design one-line diagrams, and review protection schematics; mentor junior staff and coordinate field work with 10–15% travel. A PE or ABET credentials strongly preferred.

Qualifications

• Eight years+ experience in utilities with protection and controls.
• Eight years+ experience delivering engineering projects end-to-end.
• Eight years+ experience setting relays and designing one-line diagrams.
• ABET-accredited Electrical Engineering degree is required; Master's counts toward experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead protection and control projects for substations.
• Set relays and perform relay setting calculations using ASPEN, SEL, and GE URPC.
• Review protection schematics and markups.
• Coordinate training for lower-level engineers and teams.
• Travel 10–15% to field substations.
