Job summary

ABB is seeking a Protection & Control Engineer to lead engineering activities for utility, industrial, and commercial substation protection and automation systems; you will develop designs, analyses, schematics, and BOMs while ensuring standards compliance.

This full-remote role, with preference for Northern California candidates, requires a PE license in California, a B.E. in Electrical Engineering, 5+ years of relevant experience, and US work authorization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required; Master's preferred.
• 5+ years of protection & control project experience for utility customers.
• Ability to read and apply electrical one-lines, schematics and manuals.
• Proficient in Easy Power, SKM Powertools, ETAP, Aspen, EMTP.
• PE License in California required.
• Candidates must have work authorization to work for ABB in the US.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support engineering design activities for substation protection & control/automation systems, including planning, coordination, and execution.
• Develop engineering documentation and analyses—schematics, logic diagrams, layouts, BOMs, reports, and calculations.
• Manage project materials, design packages, and issue resolution with project teams, management, partners, and customers.
• Ensure safety, standards adherence, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams; participate in training to maintain proficiency.
