Job summary

Smartsheet is seeking a Senior Software Engineer I for Observability Engineering. You will design and ship a scalable observability platform, build end-to-end telemetry pipelines, and own the golden path for instrumenting new services.

You’ll collaborate across CI/CD, incident management, and service catalog, pushing for reliable, cost-aware telemetry with AI-assisted tooling. You will also lead reviews, mentor others, and help reduce alert noise by defining SLOs and dashboards as code, driving

Qualifications

• 5+ years building and operating scalable distributed systems or observability infrastructure.
• Experience with backend and operations tools across signals: metrics, logs, traces.
• Hands-on OpenTelemetry, collectors, and semantic conventions.

Responsibilities

• Architect and build end-to-end observability capability across regions.
• Build instrumentation libraries, telemetry pipelines, and SLO/alerting.
• Turn incidents into durable improvements with instrumentation changes.
• Lead code reviews and architecture discussions for instrumented platforms.
• Mentor engineers on signal design and cost-aware instrumentation.
