Job summary

Oxford Instruments plc is seeking a hands-on Field Service Engineer to deliver installation, maintenance and support of advanced microscopy systems across North and South America. The role requires strong technical acumen, clear communication, and a proactive mindset, with extensive travel to customer sites.

The ideal candidate has 5–8 years in microscopy/analytical instrumentation, proficiency with diagnostic tools, and the ability to read schematics and work across hardware and software.

Qualifications

• 5–8 years of field service experience in microscopy or analytical instrumentation.
• Proficient with diagnostic instruments such as digital multimeters and oscilloscopes.
• Strong ability to read schematics and diagnose mechanical/electrical/system integration.
• Willingness to travel extensively (Mon–Fri) to customer sites.

Responsibilities

• Lead installation and commissioning of systems per factory specs and provide user training at installations.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance, diagnose root causes, and validate repairs to specs.
• Engage with customers, build trust, and provide hands-on training across analytical workflows.
• Provide advanced remote support and troubleshoot hardware and software issues to minimize downtime.
• Calibrate components and implement upgrades to ensure system reliability and throughput.
