Job summary

Applied Engineering is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to join a remote team focused on high-quality electrical design and validation across North America. You will own schematics, BOMs, and calculations, drive reviews, and mentor junior engineers.

Ideal candidates have a BS in Electrical Engineering with about 5+ years of industrial electrical design experience and strong knowledge of power systems, NEC/UL criteria, and component validation. Remote role, with up to 20% travel in the USA.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree required in Electrical Engineering.
• Approximately 5+ years of industrial experience in electrical design or electromechanical systems.
• Strong knowledge of power distribution, conversion, monitoring, controls, and system integration.
• Experience designing specifications for switchgear, switchboards, transfer switches, loadbanks, and generators.
• Experience selecting and validating electrical components using NEC and UL criteria.
• Proven design documentation, reviews, testing, validation, and troubleshooting experience.
• Familiarity with design standards, manufacturability, safety, and compliance practices.
• Ability to travel up to 20% within the USA.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical design and validation for major subsystems and product areas.
• Translate system requirements into practical, robust electrical designs.
• Own schematics, drawings, calculations, specifications, and BOMs.
• Drive design reviews, trade studies, prototype builds, testing, and troubleshooting.
• Collaborate with mechanical, systems, manufacturing, sourcing, quality, and project teams.
• Mentor early-career engineers and reinforce electrical design standards.
• Support project planning, effort estimation, and execution.
• Contribute to projects impacting communities across North America.
