Job summary

Cenovus Energy is seeking a Process Safety Engineer for its Superior, WI refinery to drive risk-based decisions that protect people, assets, and the environment. You will lead risk assessments, ensure PSM and RMP compliance, and collaborate with operations and technical experts to advance safety culture.

Ideal candidates bring a Bachelor's degree in a technical field and 8+ years in process safety or related refining/oil & gas experience, with strong analytical and stakeholder skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Safety, Environmental Science, or related technical discipline.
• 8+ years of experience in process engineering, operations, technical safety, or process safety within refining, chemical, or oil & gas industries.
• Knowledge of OSHA PSM (29 CFR 1910.119), EPA RMP, and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Experience with MOC, PHA, HAZOP, LOPA, and incident investigations.
• Strong analytical and stakeholder engagement skills; ability to drive risk reduction.

Responsibilities

• Lead process safety risk assessments and risk management activities across refining units.
• Ensure OSHA PSM and EPA RMP compliance while adopting industry best practices.
• Facilitate MOCs, HAZOPs, LOPAs, PSSRs, and risk assessments for plant changes and startups.
• Monitor process safety metrics and recommend improvements to risk management and reliability.
• Partner with operations and SMEs to strengthen process safety awareness and culture.
• Lead implementation of new process safety initiatives and continuous improvement.
• Support management system compliance and COIMS-related gap closure.
