Job summary

Cenovus Energy is seeking a Process Safety Engineer to identify, assess, and reduce refinery risks. The role partners with operations and leadership to improve safety performance and ensure safe, reliable operations across multiple units.

Relocation to Superior, WI is required for this role. Strong refining knowledge and regulatory compliance experience are essential for protecting people, assets, and the environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Safety, Environmental Science or related technical discipline preferred.
• 8+ years in process engineering, operations, technical safety, or process safety in refining/oil & gas.
• Working knowledge of OSHA PSM, EPA RMP, and regulatory requirements.
• Experience with MOC, PHA/HAZOP/LOPA, and incident investigations.

Responsibilities

• Lead process safety risk assessments and risk management activities across the refinery.
• Ensure compliance with PSM and RMP; drive adoption of best practices.
• Facilitate reviews (MOC, HAZOP, LOPA, PSSR) for changes and startups.
• Monitor process safety metrics; recommend risk management improvements.
• Conduct hazard evaluations, consequence modeling, and root-cause investigations.
• Partner with operations and leaders to strengthen safety awareness and culture.
• Lead new process safety initiatives and continuous improvement in protection systems.
• Support management system compliance and COIMS gap closure actions.
