Job summary

Cenovus Energy in the United States is seeking a Process Safety Engineer to support refinery operations by identifying, assessing, and reducing process safety risks across multiple units. The role partners with operations and technical experts to strengthen risk management and protect people, assets, and the environment.

You will lead PHA/HAZOP/LOPA reviews, ensure OSHA PSM and EPA RMP compliance, monitor safety metrics, investigate incidents, and drive continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Safety, Environmental Science, or related field.
• 8+ years of refinery/process safety experience.
• Knowledge of OSHA PSM and EPA RMP requirements.
• Experience with MOC, PHA, HAZOP, LOPA, and incident investigations.
• Strong analytical and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Certifications in process safety (HAZOP, LOPA, MOC) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead process safety risk assessments to reduce operational risk across the refinery.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA PSM and EPA RMP requirements.
• Facilitate PHA/HAZOP/LOPA reviews and risk assessments for plant changes and startups.
• Monitor process safety performance metrics and recommend improvements.
• Conduct hazard evaluations, consequence modeling, and root-cause investigations.
• Partner with operations and leadership to strengthen safety culture.
• Lead implementation of new process safety initiatives and continuous improvement.
• Support management system compliance and COIMS gap closure actions.
