Job summary

Cenovus Energy is seeking a Senior Staff Process and Technical Safety Engineer to lead Process Safety as a competency across the US refineries and support policy development beyond the US. This role serves as the US region's SME and thought leader in Process Safety, with a dual role to align with Canadian counterparts.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 16+ years in Process Safety roles; 10+ years in oil & gas/petrochemicals preferred.
• Experience leading multiple unit HAZOPs and MOCs.
• Experience with LOPA analyses and SIL requirements.
• Familiarity with API, NFPA, CCPS codes and US regulations; RMP compliance.
• PHAST experience is a plus.
• Auditing process safety information and verifying RAGAGEP.

Responsibilities

• Lead Process Safety across US refineries, owning methodology development and policy interpretation.
• Develop and mentor Process Safety Engineers trained in Cenovus Risk Methodology (HAZOP, LOPA, HAZID).
• Design and maintain a comprehensive risk-training suite for site personnel and QA/QC of deliverables.
• Champion key risk standards (PHA, RMP) across the organization.
• Coordinate centrally managed third-party studies (Facility Siting, Fire Hazard Analysis).
• Drive and support assurance audits within the PSM space.
