Job summary

City of Federal Way is seeking a Recreation Manager under the Parks Director to supervise the recreation department, including Athletics, Special Events, and Community Recreation.

You will hire, train, and supervise staff, help develop budgets and long-range plans, oversee facilities, and collaborate with the Arts Commission, Youth Commission, and community groups to deliver high-quality programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Recreation and Leisure Services or related field; 5 years of progressive recreation experience.
• Valid Washington State driver's license.
• Successful completion of employment reference and background check.

Responsibilities

• Supervise the recreation department including Athletics, Special Events, Community Recreation, Senior and Inclusion Programs.
• Hire, train and supervise staff across full-time, part-time, seasonal, temporary and contracted roles.
• Develop and manage division budget and long-range planning.
• Oversee facilities and operations; mentor staff for professional growth.
• Coordinate with Arts Commission, Youth Commission and other departments as needed.
• Manage Federal Way Farmer's Market staff, vendors and budget.
• Prepare agendas, track statistics and ensure policy compliance.
• Ensure programs meet community needs and operate within safety guidelines.
