Job summary

City of Durham seeks a program leader for Durham Parks and Recreation's Specialized Recreation unit. You will engage participants, coordinate diverse programs, and partner with community groups to deliver accessible, welcoming services.

This role requires bilingual English/Spanish communication, a high school diploma, 2 years in recreation, 21+ years old, NC driver’s license, and CPR/First Aid certification within six months. Shifts include evenings/weekends; hourly rate $20.06–$22.11.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalency (GED, HISet, TASC).
• Two (2) years of experience working with diverse groups in a recreational setting, supervising activities, and providing customer service.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record.
• Valid Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED – with Anaphylaxis and Epinephrine Auto Injector Certification within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Monitors and supervises recreational activities in multiple spaces.
• Develops and implements programs for diverse groups and sets schedule.
• Maintains inventory, orders supplies, and researches resources.
• Opens/closes the facility; supervises field rentals.
• Provides excellent customer service and assists with requests.
• Translates communications between English and Spanish as needed.
• Enters registrations and user data into Active.net.
• Maintains division records, prepares contracts and time sheets.
• Prepares daily cash reports and deposits.
• Collaborates with law enforcement for safety drills and incident reporting.
