Job summary

City of Hopewell is seeking a senior leader to support the Director of Public Works in planning, organizing, and directing engineering operations, including construction project management and stormwater program oversight. The role requires supervising management and professional staff and may substitute for the Director in their absence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, or related field with extensive progressively responsible experience in civil engineering and public works services.
• Extensive supervisory experience managing staff and projects across design, construction, and contract administration.
• Experience planning, budgeting, and coordinating with consultants, contractors, and other city departments.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Director of Public Works in planning, budgeting, and setting priorities for engineering operations.
• Oversee selection and management of consultants and contracts and supervise staff.
• Administer CIP projects, grants, and contract change orders; oversee project documentation and metrics.
• Coordinate Plan of Development submissions, design reviews, and routing to divisions; ensure regulatory compliance.
• Represent the department in meetings, prepare briefings, and engage with the public and City Council.
