Job summary

Markel Corporation is seeking an experienced Property Underwriter in Alpharetta, GA. The role focuses on underwriting new business and renewals for profitable growth, leveraging state laws and policy language to classify risks accurately.

You’ll engage with regional managers, mentor junior underwriters, and collaborate with agents to optimize profitability and performance. A four-year degree and CPCU are preferred, with extensive underwriting experience in surplus lines.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of complex Property underwriting expertise in the wholesale channel with surplus lines experience.
• Four-year college degree and/or CPCU or similar designation preferred.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Microsoft Office skills to include MS Word and MS Excel.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite and renew Property business profitably within authority and guidelines.
• Analyze and classify risks using underwriting tools and state-specific laws.
• Manage renewal books and advise on profitability improvements with producers.
• Provide training and support to less experienced underwriters.
• Build and maintain relationships with key producers and agents.
