Job summary

American Electric Power (AEP) seeks a Project Engineer to serve as the engineering lead for complex, multi-disciplinary generation projects. The role spans conceptual design, procurement, construction support, and commissioning, coordinating internal teams and external partners to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective delivery of utility-scale assets.

Positions include opportunities across Simple Cycle GT, CC GT, solar, wind, BESS, and retrofit projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• Master’s degree or PhD in engineering from an ABET-accredited program may be considered for entry.
• Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) license is encouraged and preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and manage Engineering Work Plan.
• Lead the Engineering Design Review process and respond to RFIs.
• Coordinate design efforts with internal and external partners.
• Provide support during construction and facilitate project closeout activities.
• Provide regular updates on engineering progress to the project team and stakeholders.
• Travel to AEP generation facilities as needed, including occasional overnight trips.

Education

ABET-accredited engineering bachelor’s degree

Master’s degree or PhD in engineering (ABET-accredited)

Professional Engineer (PE) license encouraged
