Job summary

Temporal is seeking a Senior Professional Services Engineer in New York to help customers move from design to production-ready execution with reliable, scalable Temporal Server deployments in cloud or self-hosted environments.

You will co-build workflows, teach production-safe patterns, and lead workshops to empower customer and partner engineers to operate independently while driving durable delivery patterns and capacity planning across engagements.

Qualifications

• Experience delivering and operating production systems where reliability and incident response matter.
• Strong understanding of distributed systems, failure modes, scaling tradeoffs, and operational safety.
• Hands-on coding ability in at least one major language such as Go, Java, Python, or TypeScript.
• Experience deploying and operating production services in cloud and/or self-hosted environments.
• Ability to design and communicate operational standards, including on-call readiness, runbooks, and capacity planning.
• Comfort working directly with customers in high-stakes delivery moments, with a calm and credible approach.
• Strong debugging skills and ability to navigate ambiguity and real-world constraints.
• Ability to teach and enable other engineers, not just deliver the work directly.

Responsibilities

• Deliver production-ready Temporal implementations by co-building initial workflows with customer and partner engineering teams.
• Teach production-safe workflow patterns, including retries, timeouts, heartbeats, determinism, and versioning.
• Identify and remove early activation blockers before escalations.
• Help customers stand up and operate Temporal Server in production, including self-hosted environments.
• Define worker deployment, scaling, and operational guardrails, including upgrade strategy and capacity planning.
• Establish observability and reliability standards with metrics, alerts, and dashboards for workflows and servers.
• Create templates, examples, and documentation that improve delivery quality across engagements.
• Lead hands-on workshops and training enabling customer and partner engineers to operate independently.
• Own complex delivery issues end-to-end with Support and Platform Architects to reduce escalations.
