Job summary

SAIC is seeking a Systems Engineer to provide high-level, day-to-day operational support for complex application cloud systems as part of the VA team. This is a 100% remote role, with responsibilities spanning outage management, documentation, and customer coordination.

Candidates should have 8+ years in systems engineering, strong Linux/Unix and Windows skills, and hands-on experience with AWS and Azure. The role requires scripting, IaC, and CI/CD proficiency within a secure VA framework.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
• Advanced certifications in relevant areas (e.g., RHCE, MCSE, AWS Certified Solutions Architect) are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Detect, isolate, document, rapidly report, and resolve system outages or problems encountered during operations of the scientific workstations, including collection of diagnostic data and recovery steps.
• Accurately document problems in logging and discrepancy reporting tools.
• Work directly with the customer in most aspects of day-to-day activities.
• Respond to user calls regarding hardware and software problems, escalating as required and communicating status to users and management.
• Perform maintenance/installation of computing infrastructure.
• Implement continuous improvement methodology through IT systems or procedures.
• Maintain inventory of system assets.
• Ensure compliance with VA standards and security policies.
• Provide documentation, training, and additional duties as assigned.
