Job summary

RTX is seeking a Senior Principal Structural Engineer in Tucson, AZ, to lead structural analysis and testing across development and production programs. The role focuses on high-temperature materials such as refractory metals, ceramics, and CMCs, delivering thorough analyses from hand calculations to finite element methods while aligning with program goals and cost constraints.

You will act as a SME, define technical processes, and review peers’ work.

Qualifications

• STEM degree and minimum 10 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with at least 7 years of experience.
• Experience in structural analysis using standard tools (e.g., PATRAN/NASTRAN/ANSYS).
• Experience with CMH-17 guidelines.
• Experience in high temperature material systems for hypersonic aerospace.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a US security clearance; U.S. citizenship required.

Responsibilities

• Perform detailed structural analysis and testing to support all program phases.
• Collect data on material characteristics and design tests to fill gaps in understanding.
• Generate test plans to validate analyses and verify hardware against requirements.
• Analyze test data to validate models and derive mechanical loads and environments.
• Lead technical peer reviews and present results to stakeholders and customers.
• Travel to test sites to support testing and design discussions.
• Define and develop MA&T processes and tools as a technical leader.
