Job summary

RTX, a leader in aerospace and defense, is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Lead for onsite roles in MA. You will guide cross-functional teams through all development phases, ensuring technical performance and program success.

The role requires advanced mechanical design expertise, DoD exposure, and the ability to work with suppliers and global factories. Travel is expected to support production and integration efforts.

Qualifications

• Degree in STEM with 10+ years of experience, or an advanced degree with 7+ years.
• Mechanical equipment design and development experience in defense environments.
• Proven engineering leadership with accountability for cost, schedule, and technical performance; project budgeting and scheduling experience.
• Experience collaborating within Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) and cross-functional organizations, including customer engagement.
• Hands-on mechanical design, from trade studies and concept development through production transition and supplier support.
• Experience conducting RCCA, driving cost reduction initiatives, and producing technical documentation/white papers.
• Broad expertise in mechanical design, materials, manufacturing processes, CAD, and PDM systems.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.

Responsibilities

• Lead execution of major programs and mid- to large-scale cross-functional engineering teams across all development phases.
• Serve as SME and technical liaison to programs/IPTs, ensuring stakeholder alignment.
• Oversee technical performance of design teams and provide lifecycle engineering guidance.
• Lead proposal efforts, EAC activities, and manage schedule, cost, and technical commitments.
• Drive TDP development, peer reviews, and hardware engineering process improvements.
• Perform complex mechanical design, development, and documentation for defense systems.
• Support product integration with domestic/international factories and suppliers.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, Chief Engineers, and suppliers to deliver robust, production-ready solutions.
