Job summary

RTX is seeking a Senior Principal Mechanical Engineer (P5) for the Air Launched Effectors mechanical design team. The role focuses on casting technologies, producible and affordable high-performance solutions, and close collaboration with cross-functional teams across program management, systems engineering, and operations.

You will lead design, reviews, and supplier engagements while applying GD&T, DFMA, and FAI processes to missile components and assemblies in a dynamic, security-cleared

Qualifications

• Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) with 10+ years of experience or an advanced degree with 7+ years.
• Technical leadership across full development lifecycle.
• Experience with aluminum casting and machining processes.
• Willingness to travel domestically up to 75% to casting and machining suppliers.
• Lead and conduct trade studies; support integration and test of mechanical products.
• Experience with First Article Inspection (FAI).
• Familiarity with ANSI/ASME Y14.5 GD&T and tolerance analysis.
• CREO (Pro/E) or similar 3D CAD proficiency.
• Experience with suppliers delivering machined parts and electronics; missile program exposure.

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical design, development, and documentation of components and end items.
• Lead and mentor mechanical engineering teams to meet schedule, cost, and technical goals.
• Collaborate with cross-discipline teams to develop and refine design solutions.
• Support factories and suppliers with product development, integration, and obsolescence management.
• Conduct design reviews, trade studies, and resolve technical action items.
• Apply thermal, structural, dynamic, and reliability analyses to improve designs.
• Maintain technical data packages and ensure compliance with requirements.
• Oversee First Article Inspection and Source Inspection activities with Quality Engineering.
