Job summary

McKinstry in Spokane, WA is seeking a Senior Preconstruction Engineer to lead preconstruction for new construction mechanical projects, guiding conceptual estimates, scope and budget, and risk management from early design through permitting. You will collaborate with project managers, manage budgets, mentor team members, and ensure accurate estimates and strong client communication.

A bachelor’s in CM or engineering and 3–7 years in engineering/construction are required; MS Office, scheduling

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or Engineering or equivalent work experience required.
• Three to seven years of experience in engineering, project management, or construction required.
• Experience with a General Contractor or major mechanical subcontractor preferred.
• Basic estimating skills required.
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) required.
• PE, CPM, LEED designations preferred but not required.
• Understanding of accounting and financial management preferred.
• Scheduling software: Microsoft Project, Primavera and/or SureTrak preferred.
• OSHA 10 or 30 class preferred.

Responsibilities

• Own all conceptual estimates for new mechanical construction projects.
• Manage scope and budget on assigned projects before construction phase.
• Support design phase management, budget management, and risk/opportunities for budget.
• Manage projects from early design through construction and permitting.
• Partner with Project Managers for smooth preconstruction to construction transition.
• Protect and enhance gross margin potential on all projects.
• Develop conceptual mechanical budgets and scope letters with sales.
• Participate in department improvement goals to improve deliverables.
• Deliver clear estimates and budgets with excellent client communication.
