Job summary

ABB is seeking a Senior PLC Technician for Data Center Power Systems to lead on-site commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting of paralleling switchgear and PLC controls in mission-critical environments. The role involves remote work in the US with up to 80% travel, guiding junior teams and interfacing with customers and project teams.

You will configure generator controls, troubleshoot PLC/ACS platforms, and ensure safe, compliant execution while delivering on-time, on-budget results.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of relevant field experience or 5+ years with an associate/bachelor degree.
• Independent capability on highly complex field assignments.
• Advanced experience with MV/LV switchgear, paralleling switchgear and protective relays.
• Experience leading startup and commissioning activities under schedule pressure.
• Ability to read electrical/control drawings and apply engineering methods.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and customer communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and execute complex field assignments for paralleling switchgear and PLC/Relay transfers.
• Lead testing of emergency power systems including transfer sequences and baseload applications.
• Configure and troubleshoot generator controls, protective relays, and PLC/ACS platforms.
• Perform advanced PLC ladder logic troubleshooting and authorized modifications.
• Establish and troubleshoot Modbus, PLC-to-PLC, and SCADA communications.
• Interpret one-line diagrams and coordination studies for commissioning procedures.
• Lead on-site execution, coordinate daily work, manage punch-lists, and communicate risks.
• Mentor junior field engineers and technicians on safe execution and documentation.
