Job summary

ABB is hiring a Senior PLC Technician - Data Center Power Systems to lead field activities and troubleshoot ABB paralleling switchgear and controls in mission-critical power applications. You will oversee pre-startup, startup, commissioning, modification, and preventive maintenance with a focus on safety and quality.

The role requires mentoring junior engineers, coordinating on-site activities, and communicating clearly with customers, contractors, and design teams.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with 7+ years of field experience or an associate/bachelor degree with 5+ years in a related field.
• Independent field capability on highly complex assignments.
• Advanced experience with low/medium voltage switchgear, paralleling switchgear, circuit breakers, protective relays, generator controls, PLC-based controls, HMIs/ACS, and mission-critical power systems.
• Hands-on startup/commissioning leadership, energization switching, and directing multi-person site teams.
• Ability to read electrical/control drawings and apply engineering methods in the field.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and execute complex field assignments involving Paralleling Switchgear and PLC/Relay transfer schemes during pre-startup, startup, commissioning, and maintenance.
• Lead functional and integrated testing of emergency power systems including transfer sequences and paralleling.
• Configure and troubleshoot generator controls, protective relays, meters, PLCs, HMIs, and communications.
• Perform advanced PLC ladder logic modifications following engineering documentation.
• Establish and troubleshoot PLC communications and BMS/SCADA interfaces.
• Interpret drawings, sequencing, and commissioning procedures; supervise on-site execution and risk management.
• Mentor junior field engineers, assign work, and coach on safe execution and customer communication.
• Act as senior escalation resource for remote/on-site troubleshooting and emergency response.
