Job summary

ABB Inc. is seeking a Senior PLC Technician for Data Center Power Systems. The role involves independent technical leadership in pre-startup, startup, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of paralleling switchgear and PLC controls in mission-critical power systems.

Remote work in the US with up to 80% travel. You will guide junior field resources, coordinate complex field activities, and act as a senior interface for customers, contractors, and project teams.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of field experience or 5+ years with Degree.
• Independent field capability on highly complex assignments.
• Experience with low/medium voltage switchgear and paralleling switchgear.
• Experience leading startup and commissioning activities.
• Ability to travel extensively within the United States.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute complex field assignments for paralleling switchgear and PLC/Relay transfer schemes.
• Lead testing of emergency/standby power systems and transfers.
• Configure and troubleshoot generator controls, relays, and PLC-based controls.
• Perform advanced PLC programming modifications and testing with change-control practices.
• Establish and troubleshoot PLC/ACS communications and BMS/SCADA integrations.
• Interpret electrical drawings and sequencing documents for commissioning.
• Lead on-site execution, coordinate daily work, and manage risks and punch-lists.
• Mentor junior engineers and technicians; provide coaching on safety and quality.
