NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, is seeking a Senior Laboratory Assistant (Phlebotomy) to support day-to-day laboratory operations, specimen processing, and inventory management. The role includes front-end processing, labeling, and collaboration with providers and other labs.

The position requires a High School Diploma with biology/chemistry credits, Excel/Word skills, and excellent communication. Bachelor's degree and laboratory experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma with 12 college credits in biology or chemistry is required.
• Laboratory experience handling blood and body fluids, including intake/accessioning, is required.
• Experience with computer applications (Excel and Word) is preferred.
• Excellent communication skills are required for this role.

Responsibilities

• Screen and accession specimens in the LIS as described in the Lab Assistant job description.
• Maintain supplies and reagents; notify supervisor when additional items are needed.
• Ensure proper receipt and storage of laboratory materials; document deliveries.
• Understand specimen requirements and communicate with providers; note cancellations or rejections.
• Assure specimen quality prior to processing; prepare samples for analysis (labeling, centrifuging, aliquoting).
• Call providers to confirm requests and modify orders as needed.
• Perform front-end processing of all samples for analysis and transport to platforms.
• Handle back-end processing for storage, tracking, and disposal per policy.
• Dispose of all department regulated waste following guidelines.
• Clean work surfaces and equipment per protocols; document required checks.
• Maintain temperature and humidity logs for equipment and work areas.
• Answer phones and assist callers with requirements, test availability, and turnaround time.
