Job summary

NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, invites applications for a Senior Laboratory Assistant (Phlebotomy) on a night shift with 18.75 weekly hours. You will support lab staff with specimen handling, accessioning, inventory, and processing across front-end and back-end workflows.

Qualifications include a high school diploma with biology/chemistry credits and proficiency in Excel/Word; bachelor’s degree is preferred.

Qualifications

High School Diploma with 12 college credits in biology or chemistry.
Laboratory experience including handling blood and body fluids.
Proficiency in computer applications, especially Excel and Word.

Responsibilities

Screen and accession specimens in the LIS as described in the Lab Assistant Job Description.
Maintain supplies of general laboratory items and department reagents; notify supervisor when restocking is needed.
Ensure proper receipt and storage of laboratory materials; document deliveries per NYU policy.
Understand specimen requirements and communicate/test status with providers, cancel or reject as needed.
Perform front-end processing of all samples for analysis (labeling, centrifuging, aliquoting, transport, loading onto test platforms).
Perform back-end processing including storage prep and disposal per policy.
Dispose of all department regulated waste.
Clean lab surfaces and equipment per protocols; maintain required logs for temperature/humidity.
Answer calls and provide tests availability and turnaround time information.
