Job summary

NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn is seeking a Senior Laboratory Assistant (Phlebotomy) for Night Shift in Sunset Park. You will support lab staff with specimen processing, accessioning, and inventory management in a fast-paced clinical setting.

The role requires phlebotomy experience, strong communication, and proficiency with LIS, Excel and Word. High school diploma with biology/chemistry credits is required; bachelor’s degree preferred. NYC hospital benefits included.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma with 12 college credits in biology or chemistry.
• Laboratory experience handling blood and body fluids.
• Strong computer skills: Excel and Word; good communication.

Responsibilities

• Screen and accession specimens in LIS as described in the Lab Assistant Job Description.
• Maintain supplies for lab and department; notify supervisor when stock is low.
• Ensure proper receipt and storage of materials; document according to NYU policy.
• Communicate specimen requirements and status with providers and labs.
• Prepare samples for analysis: labeling, centrifuging, aliquoting, transport.
• Process samples for storage and eventual disposal per policy.
• Disposal of department regulated waste in accordance with protocols.
• Maintain temperature/humidity logs for equipment and work areas.
• Answer calls and provide test availability, requirements, and turnaround times.
