NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn is seeking a Senior Laboratory Assistant (Phlebotomy) for the 11pm-7am shift to support the lab in specimen handling, accessioning, and inventory management in a busy clinical environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma with 12 college credits in biology or chemistry.
• Laboratory experience including handling open containers of blood and body fluids.
• Laboratory experience including Intake/Accessioning, and handling open containers of blood and body fluids.
• Knowledge of computer applications especially Excel and Word.
• Excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Screening and accessioning specimens in the LIS as described.
• Maintain supplies and communicate needs to supervisor.
• Ensure proper receipt and storage of laboratory materials; document per policy.
• Understand specimen requirements and communicate with provider.
• Assure specimen quality prior to processing.
• Call providers to confirm requests and place orders as required.
• Front-end processing of samples (labeling, centrifuging, aliquoting, transport).
• Back-end processing including storage and disposal as required.
• Dispose of department waste per policy.
• Clean work surfaces and equipment; document required logs.
• Maintain temperature/humidity logs for equipment.
• Answer calls and provide assistance on test availability and turnaround.
• Access automated test platforms to monitor status.
• Assist in blood product modification as needed.
• Inventory management of blood products.
• Performs Phlebotomy services for inpatients.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
