Job summary

M&T Bank Corporation in Buffalo, NY seeks a Senior Performance Engineer to define, engineer, and lead performance testing across complex applications and platforms. You will drive strategies, workloads, and validation across web, API, mobile, cloud, and distributed systems.

You will mentor teams, coordinate with vendors and platform teams, and deliver data-driven recommendations for capacity, resiliency, and production readiness. This role emphasizes shift-left practices and strong collaboration.

Qualifications

• Combined minimum of 8 years’ higher education and/or work experience in systems design, management and/or architecture.
• Minimum of 8 years of professional experience in software testing, performance engineering, software engineering, or a related technical engineering discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience developing and executing enterprise performance tests with LoadRunner Cloud/Enterprise or VuGen.
• Advanced experience designing performance test strategies, workload models, success criteria, and test scenarios for complex or distributed systems.
• Advanced experience developing and maintaining performance test scripts, including C-based VuGen scripting and JMeter.

Responsibilities

• Lead performance engineering strategy, planning, execution, analysis, and reporting for enterprise-scale initiatives across the SDLC.
• Design and implement performance test strategies, workload models, and validation approaches for web, API, mobile, cloud, containerized, and distributed apps.
• Engineer and maintain robust performance test assets using LoadRunner, JMeter, BlazeMeter, and related tooling.
• Develop automated performance test scripts in C and other languages, including correlation, parameterization, and error handling.
• Lead load, stress, endurance, capacity testing to evaluate behavior under realistic demand.
• Use Dynatrace and observability tools to identify bottlenecks and guide root-cause analysis.
• Review architectures and release plans to identify performance risk and mitigation options.
