Job summary

Intuit seeks a Staff Payroll Tax Processor to serve as a senior payroll tax SME, owning the end-to-end resolution of notices, corrections, and amendments. This role focuses on complex cases, mentoring others, and delivering accurate tax outcomes across multiple states.

The position is an hourly, non-exempt role with flexible hours, offering 20–40 hours per week based on business needs and potential overtime opportunities.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of payroll tax experience with tax defect resolution across multiple states.
• Knowledge of State and Federal payroll tax notices; draft penalty abatements and agency letters.
• Experience preparing amended Federal (941-X, W-2c) and State returns across many states.
• Deep knowledge of FICA, FUTA, FITW and tax deposit schedules; penalties/interest.
• Multi-state expertise including reciprocal agreements and local tax compliance.
• Lead/SME experience; coaching junior staff through complex resolutions.
• Advanced Excel for reconciliation and audit trails; strong written skills.

Responsibilities

• Resolve complex state and federal payroll tax notices end-to-end.
• Prepare and file amended Federal and State returns across 10+ states.
• Diagnose payroll tax errors spanning multiple periods; trace to payroll run.
• Maintain high productivity resolving Corrections, Amendments, and Notices.
• Monitor WIP; identify aging cases and blockers; propose resolutions.
• Coach Senior Processors and share knowledge via Slack/Zoom.
• Develop SOPs and KB articles; identify recurring error patterns.
• Collaborate with Corrections, Amendments, Pay & File, and Tax Notice teams.
