Job summary

TEEMA is seeking a Manager of Payroll Operations to lead end-to-end payroll for a large, multi-state healthcare organization with ~20,000 employees. You will manage domestic and offshore teams, strengthen controls, and drive process improvements.

The role requires strong leadership, executive communication, and deep knowledge of payroll regulations, with a focus on transformation, automation, and modernization. This is a remote role with a 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Central Time schedule.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of progressive payroll experience including operations, compliance, tax reporting, audits, and year-end processing.
• 5+ years of payroll leadership with end-to-end responsibility.
• Experience managing complex, multi-state and multi-site payroll operations.
• Experience supporting large employee populations (10,000+).
• Demonstrated experience leading and developing payroll professionals.
• Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations.
• Experience with payroll transformations, system upgrades, or large-scale process improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end payroll operations for a large, multi-state workforce.
• Review and approve payroll results, audit output, and resolve exceptions.
• Oversee regular payroll, supplements, off-cycle payments, bonuses, and special earnings programs.
• Maintain compliance with wage-and-hour regulations, taxes, garnishments, and deductions.
• Lead year-end payroll activities and W-2 processing.
• Develop and coach a payroll team including US-based and offshore staff.
• Partner with HR, Finance, IT, Legal, and Operations to resolve complex payroll matters.
• Communicate payroll performance, risks, and opportunities to executives.
