Job summary

HED in Detroit, MI is seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Manager to oversee multi-state payroll operations for US and Canada, coordinate with outsourced provider, ensure tax compliance, and support annual cycles including W-2s and 401(k) audits. Hybrid work model with occasional in-office days, strong proficiency in Workday and ADP is preferred, plus advanced Excel skills and experience

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, economics or related field.
• Five years of payroll experience.
• Five years of payroll management in professional services or AEC with multi-state payroll complexities.
• Experience with Workday and ADP preferred.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
• Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day payroll processing with external provider.
• Manage US and Canada payroll requirements in compliance with laws.
• Oversee timesheets, PTO, and payroll deductions.
• Lead annual payroll cycles, including year-end processes and audits.
• Prepare payroll reports for internal departments.
