Job summary

Harley Ellis Devereaux (HED) is seeking a detail‑oriented Payroll Manager to oversee all payroll operations in a hybrid Michigan office. The role requires strong knowledge of payroll procedures, labor and tax laws, and experience with Workday and ADP.

You will manage outsourced processing, ensure timely submissions, and maintain confidentiality in a fast-paced environment while coordinating with cross‑functional teams and auditors. Strong Excel skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, economics or related field.
• Five years of payroll experience required.
• Five years of payroll management in professional services or AEC environments with multi-state payroll complexity.
• Excellent attention to detail and data accuracy.
• Experience with Workday and ADP preferred.
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
• Ability to manage confidential information.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day oversight of external payroll processing provider and ensure timely/accurate submissions.
• Manage US and Canadian payroll requirements in alignment with laws and tax filings.
• Oversee timesheets, PTO, and deductions, ensuring accuracy.
• Review payroll data and reconcile with accounting/general ledger.
• Respond to employee inquiries on payroll, direct deposit, and deductions.
• Lead annual payroll cycles, including year-end processes and 401(k) audits.
• Ensure electronic W-2 transition and SOC-1 review.
• Coordinate payroll backups and documentation with internal/external teams.
