Job summary

Baker Tilly US is seeking a Senior Payroll Consultant to support payroll operations, compliance, and process improvements for diverse clients. This mostly remote role requires frequent collaboration with a payroll team and clients across industries.

You will handle multistate tax filings, setup, and data analysis, while applying regulatory changes and best practices. A CPP certification is preferred, along with strong Excel and communication skills.

Qualifications

• 3 years of payroll experience in consulting, payroll provider, or in-house payroll.
• Bachelor's degree preferred; equivalent experience acceptable.
• Strong understanding of payroll processes, compliance and multistate regulations.
• Experience with payroll tax forms and filings (e.g., 941, W-2).
• Familiarity with payroll systems such as ADP, Workday, SAP, Oracle/PeopleSoft, Paycom, Paycor.
• CPP certification preferred or in progress.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Excel proficiency and MS Office tools.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a team environment.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, HR, Business or related field (or equivalent).

Responsibilities

• Support payroll consulting engagements across a range of clients, industries, and geographies.
• Assist in assessing and improving client payroll processes, controls, and procedures.
• Perform multistate payroll compliance reviews, including federal, state, and local regulations.
• Support payroll tax activities, including preparation and review of forms (e.g., 941, 941-X, W-2C).
• Assist with payroll setup and configuration, including earnings, deductions, and tax treatments.
• Analyze payroll data to identify discrepancies, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
• Support reviews related to employee classification, wage treatment, and overtime calculations.
• Research and apply payroll regulations, including reciprocity and multistate considerations.
• Collaborate with internal teams and clients to deliver timely, accurate work.
• Communicate payroll concepts and findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Contribute to project deliverables and ensure work is completed on time and aligned with expectations.
