Job summary

Baker Tilly US is seeking a Senior Payroll Consultant to support payroll operations, compliance, and process improvement. You will work with clients and internal teams to navigate complex payroll challenges and deliver high-quality solutions.

This role is mostly remote with proximity requirements to Baker Tilly offices in certain states. A CPP certification is strongly preferred and experience with multiple payroll systems is valued.

Qualifications

• 3 years of payroll experience, ideally in consulting, payroll provider, or in-house
• Bachelor's degree preferred (or equivalent experience)
• Strong understanding of payroll processes, compliance and multistate regulations
• Experience with payroll tax forms and filings
• Familiarity with payroll systems (ADP, Workday, SAP, Oracle/PeopleSoft, Paycom, Paycor)
• CPP certification strongly preferred (or in progress)

Responsibilities

• Support payroll consulting engagements across a range of clients, industries, and geographies
• Assist in assessing and improving client payroll processes, controls, and procedures
• Perform multistate payroll compliance reviews, including federal, state, and local regulations
• Support payroll tax activities, including preparation and review of forms (e.g., 941, 941-X, W-2C)
• Assist with payroll setup and configuration, including earnings, deductions, and tax treatments
• Analyze payroll data to identify discrepancies, risks, and opportunities for improvement
• Support reviews related to employee classification, wage treatment, and overtime calculations
• Collaborate with internal teams and clients to deliver timely, accurate, and high-quality work
• Communicate payroll concepts and findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Contribute to project deliverables and ensure work is completed on time and aligned with expectations
