Baker Tilly US is seeking a Senior Payroll Consultant to support a variety of client engagements focusing on payroll operations, compliance, and process improvement. You will work with experienced team members to deliver high-quality payroll solutions and help clients navigate complex regulations.

This mostly remote role requires strong payroll knowledge, cross-state compliance, and collaboration with clients and internal teams to ensure timely, accurate work.

Qualifications

• 3 years of payroll experience, ideally in a consulting firm, payroll provider, or in-house payroll function
• Bachelor's degree preferred; experience can be considered in lieu of degree
• Strong understanding of payroll processes, compliance requirements, and multistate regulations
• Experience with payroll tax forms and filings
• Familiarity with payroll systems such as ADP, Workday, SAP, Oracle/PeopleSoft, Paycom, Paycor, or similar platforms
• Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification strongly preferred (or in progress)
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office tools
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a team-oriented environment
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Human Resources, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience)

Responsibilities

• Support payroll consulting engagements across a range of clients, industries, and geographies
• Assist in assessing and improving client payroll processes, controls, and procedures
• Perform multistate payroll compliance reviews, including federal, state, and local regulations
• Support payroll tax activities, including preparation and review of forms (e.g., 941, 941-X, W-2C)
• Assist with payroll setup and configuration, including earnings, deductions, and tax treatments
• Analyze payroll data to identify discrepancies, risks, and opportunities for improvement
• Support reviews related to employee classification, wage treatment, and overtime calculations
• Research and apply payroll regulations, including reciprocity and other multistate considerations
• Collaborate with internal teams and clients to deliver timely, accurate, and high-quality work
• Communicate payroll concepts and findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Contribute to project deliverables and ensure work is completed on time and aligned with expectations
