Job summary

Baker Tilly US is seeking a Senior Payroll Consultant to support payroll operations, compliance, and process improvement for a variety of clients. The role is mostly remote, with proximity requirements to Baker Tilly offices for occasional in-person collaboration.

Qualifications

• 3 years of payroll experience in consulting, payroll provider, or in-house payroll function.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred; degree in Accounting, HR, Business, or related field acceptable with experience.
• Strong understanding of payroll processes, compliance, and multistate regulations.
• Experience with payroll tax forms and filings.
• Familiarity with payroll systems such as ADP, Workday, SAP, Oracle/PeopleSoft, Paycom, Paycor.
• Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification strongly preferred (or in progress).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office tools.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a team-oriented environment.

Responsibilities

• Support payroll consulting engagements across a range of clients, industries, and geographies.
• Assist in assessing and improving client payroll processes, controls, and procedures.
• Perform multistate payroll compliance reviews, including federal, state, and local regulations.
• Support payroll tax activities, including preparation and review of forms (e.g., 941, 941-X, W-2C).
• Assist with payroll setup and configuration, including earnings, deductions, and tax treatments.
• Analyze payroll data to identify discrepancies, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
• Collaborate with internal teams and clients to deliver timely, accurate, and high-quality work.
• Communicate payroll concepts and findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Contribute to project deliverables and ensure work is completed on time and aligned with expectations.
