Job summary

Baker Tilly US is seeking a Senior Payroll Consultant to support payroll operations, compliance, and process improvement for a variety of clients. This mostly remote role requires proximity to Baker Tilly offices in TX, WI, or PA for occasional onsite collaboration.

You will work with experienced teammates, handle multistate payrolls, tax forms, and complex regulations, and help clients optimize payroll systems such as ADP, Workday, or SAP.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred (or equivalent experience)
• 3 years payroll experience in consulting, payroll provider, or in-house
• Strong understanding of payroll processes and multistate regulations
• Experience with payroll tax forms and filings
• Familiarity with payroll systems such as ADP, Workday, SAP, Oracle/PeopleSoft, Paycom, Paycor
• CPP certification strongly preferred or in progress
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Proficiency in Excel and MS Office
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a team environment

Responsibilities

• Support payroll consulting engagements across a range of clients, industries, and geographies
• Assist in assessing and improving client payroll processes, controls, and procedures
• Perform multistate payroll compliance reviews, including federal, state, and local regulations
• Support payroll tax activities, including preparation and review of forms (e.g., 941, 941-X, W-2C)
• Assist with payroll setup and configuration, including earnings, deductions, and tax treatments
• Analyze payroll data to identify discrepancies, risks, and opportunities for improvement
• Support reviews related to employee classification, wage treatment, and overtime calculations
• Research and apply payroll regulations, including reciprocity and multistate considerations
• Collaborate with internal teams and clients to deliver timely, accurate work
• Communicate payroll concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences
• Contribute to project deliverables and ensure on-time completion
