Job summary

Baker Tilly US is seeking a Senior Payroll Consultant to support payroll operations, compliance, and process improvement for diverse clients. The role is mostly remote with proximity to Baker Tilly offices required for occasional in-person collaboration.

You will work with experienced teams across multistate payroll, tax forms, and regulatory changes, leveraging systems like ADP, Workday, SAP, and Oracle. A CPP certification is preferred, with emphasis on accuracy, communication, and client

Qualifications

  • 3 years of payroll experience, ideally within a consulting firm, payroll provider, or in-house payroll function.
  • Bachelor degree required.
  • Strong understanding of payroll processes, compliance requirements, and multistate regulations.
  • Experience with payroll tax forms and filings.
  • Familiarity with payroll systems such as ADP, Workday, SAP, Oracle/PeopleSoft, Paycom, Paycor, or similar platforms.
  • CPP certification strongly preferred (or in progress).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Human Resources, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience).

Responsibilities

  • Support payroll consulting engagements across a range of clients, industries, and geographies
  • Assist in assessing and improving client payroll processes, controls, and procedures
  • Perform multistate payroll compliance reviews, including federal, state, and local regulations
  • Support payroll tax activities, including preparation and review of forms (e.g., 941, 941-X, W-2C)
  • Assist with payroll setup and configuration, including earnings, deductions, and tax treatments
  • Analyze payroll data to identify discrepancies, risks, and opportunities for improvement
  • Support reviews related to employee classification, wage treatment, and overtime calculations
  • Research and apply payroll regulations, including reciprocity and other multistate considerations
  • Collaborate with internal teams and clients to deliver timely, accurate, and high-quality work
  • Communicate payroll concepts and findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Contribute to project deliverables and ensure work is completed on time and aligned with expectations
  • Build and apply technical payroll knowledge across a variety of client situations
  • Take a proactive, detail-oriented approach to delivering high-quality work
  • Collaborate effectively with team members and contribute to a positive team environment
  • Stay current on payroll regulations and industry trends
  • Demonstrate responsiveness and a strong commitment to client service
