Baker Tilly is seeking a Senior Payroll Consultant focused on payroll operations, compliance, and process improvement. The role supports multi-client engagements and requires strong payroll knowledge and client-facing skills.

The position is mostly remote with proximity to Baker Tilly offices for occasional in-person collaboration. Ideal candidates have payroll experience and familiarity with multiple payroll systems and multistate regulations.

Qualifications

• 3 years of payroll experience, ideally in consulting, payroll provider, or in-house payroll.
• Strong knowledge of payroll processes, compliance, and multistate regulations.
• Experience with payroll tax forms and filings.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Office tools.
• CPP certification preferred or in progress.

Responsibilities

• Support payroll consulting engagements across a range of clients and geographies.
• Assist in improving client payroll processes, controls, and procedures.
• Perform multistate payroll compliance reviews (federal/state/local).
• Support payroll tax activities, including Form 941 and W-2 processing.
• Assist with payroll setup and configuration including earnings/deductions.
• Analyze payroll data to identify discrepancies and risks.
• Support reviews of employee classification and wage treatment.
• Research payroll regulations, including reciprocity and multistate issues.
• Collaborate with teams and clients to deliver timely, high-quality work.
• Communicate payroll concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
