Job summary

Baker Tilly US is seeking a Senior Payroll Consultant to join the Human Resources & Payroll Consulting team. The role focuses on payroll operations, compliance, and process improvement for diverse clients, with a mostly remote setup but proximity to Baker Tilly offices within 50 miles in select states.

You will collaborate with experienced colleagues to deliver high-quality payroll solutions, navigate complex regulations, and communicate findings clearly to clients and technical staff.

Qualifications

• 3 years of payroll experience in consulting, payroll provider, or in-house.
• Bachelor degree required.
• Strong understanding of payroll processes, compliance, and multistate rules.
• Experience with payroll tax forms and filings.
• CPP certification strongly preferred or in progress.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency with Excel and Microsoft Office tools.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a team environment.
• Degree in Accounting, HR, Business, or related field (or equivalent).

Responsibilities

• Support payroll engagements across a variety of clients and geographies.
• Assess and improve payroll processes, controls, and procedures.
• Perform multistate payroll compliance reviews (federal/state/local).
• Support payroll tax activities, including forms such as 941/941-X/W-2C.
• Assist with payroll setup, configuration, earnings, deductions, and tax treatments.
• Analyze payroll data to identify discrepancies, risks and improvements.
• Review employee classification, wage treatment, and overtime calculations.
• Research payroll regulations including reciprocity considerations.
• Collaborate with internal teams and clients to deliver timely, accurate work.
• Communicate payroll concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
