Job summary

Citi's Core Payment Systems team is seeking a Senior Engineering Lead, Payments Technology to architect and evolve global payment processing platforms. This VP-level role blends hands-on engineering with technical leadership for high-throughput microservices that process transactions at global scale.

You will drive design, mentor engineers, and champion cloud-native, AI-assisted development and robust resilience patterns to ensure 99.99% availability across regions.

Qualifications

• 6+ years in backend software development with 3+ years in a hands-on technical leadership capacity.
• Expert in Java and the Spring Boot framework, able to build production-grade microservices at scale.
• Deep knowledge of microservice architecture, Domain-Driven Design, and event-driven patterns.
• Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud platforms, plus CI/CD and automated testing.
• Clean Code and SOLID principles applied through code reviews and coaching.
• Strong communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders in mission-critical environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end delivery of critical payment applications and own the full SDLC from design to deployment.
• Design high-throughput microservices using Java 8+ and cloud-native principles for performance and security.
• Champion DDD, event-driven patterns, and containerization to modernize legacy platforms.
• Mentor cross-functional teams and enforce Clean Code and SOLID in production code.
• Integrate AI-powered tooling to increase delivery velocity and test generation.
• Define SLAs/SLOs/SLIs and lead Chaos Engineering to improve reliability across systems.
• Collaborate with product, analytics, and operations to translate complex requirements into scalable solutions.
