Job summary

Citi is seeking a Senior Java Engineer to lead the technical transformation of its cheque payment platform, moving from legacy mainframe systems to cloud-native microservices. You will design, implement, and own production-grade Java services and guide a scrum team through modernisation efforts.

You will oversee data architecture across Oracle, SQL, and MongoDB, and drive AI-powered quality, security, and performance improvements across CI/CD pipelines in a global, highly available environment.

Qualifications

• Extensive hands-on Java engineering in high-throughput environments.
• Proven ability to deliver microservices on Spring Boot with RESTful APIs.
• Deep knowledge of Apache Kafka, including exactly-once semantics and high throughput streaming.
• Cloud-native engineering with OpenShift/AWS, Kubernetes, and Docker.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, Gradle/Maven) and DevOps practices.

Responsibilities

• Design and build production-grade Java microservices for a high-volume cheque platform.
• Architect event-driven distributed systems with Kafka including topic design and partitioning.
• Migrate monolithic mainframe components to cloud-native microservices.
• Own platform data architecture across Oracle, SQL, and MongoDB.
• Drive AI-powered engineering quality, automated testing and security reviews.
• Lead performance tuning for JVM-based applications and ensure compliance.
