Job summary

Citi is seeking a Senior Java Engineer to lead the transformation of its cheque payment platform, combining hands-on Java with platform strategy and guiding a scrum team through modernisation from mainframes to cloud-native microservices.

You will architect and deliver at scale, embedding AI-driven practices, while owning data architecture across Oracle, SQL Server, and MongoDB, and aligning security, CI/CD, and DevOps standards across the stack.

Qualifications

High-throughput Java engineering in production environments.
Spring Boot / Spring MVC and REST design experience.
Kafka knowledge: topic design, partitions, exactly-once semantics.
Oracle SQL and MongoDB schema design and indexing.
CI/CD, DevOps, observability with Grafana and distributed tracing.
Experience delivering at scale in Agile or SAFe environments.

Responsibilities

Design and build production-grade Java microservices for a high-volume cheque platform.
Architect event-driven distributed systems using Apache Kafka with exactly-once semantics.
Lead the modernization roadmap from mainframes to cloud-native microservices.
Own data architecture across Oracle, SQL Server, and MongoDB.
Drive AI-powered engineering quality using tools like GitHub Copilot and LLMs.
Lead JVM performance optimization and garbage collection tuning.
Oversee security and compliance reviews across CI/CD and cloud-native delivery.
Communicate platform health, progress, and strategy to senior stakeholders.
