Job summary

Citi's Core Payment Systems team in the United States seeks a Senior Engineering Lead, Payments Technology to architect and evolve global payment processing platforms. In a Vice President‑level role, you will blend hands‑on engineering with technical leadership to guide a cross‑functional team delivering highly resilient, high‑throughput microservices.

You will design with Java 8+ and Spring Boot, embrace cloud‑native patterns, containerization with Docker and Kubernetes, and champion modern

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software development experience delivering complex, enterprise-scale backend applications, with at least 3 years in a hands-on technical leadership capacity.
• Expert-level proficiency in Java and the Spring Boot framework, with the ability to build and operate production-grade microservices at scale.
• Deep knowledge of microservice architecture, Domain-Driven Design, and event-driven patterns, with hands-on experience using messaging and event-streaming platforms.
• Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud platforms, plus CI/CD, automated testing, and modern DevOps practices.
• Strong commitment to Clean Code and SOLID design principles through code reviews and mentoring.
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases (Oracle, MongoDB) and selecting appropriate technologies.
• Excellent communication skills for technical and non-technical stakeholders in critical environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end delivery of critical payment applications from design through production deployment and support.
• Design and build high-throughput, low-latency microservices using Java 8+ and Spring Boot in cloud-native environments.
• Champion modern architectures (Domain-Driven Design, event-driven, containerization) to transform legacy platforms.
• Mentor a cross-functional team, enforcing Clean Code and SOLID principles across services.
• Integrate AI-powered tooling into the SDLC to boost velocity and enable automated testing and analysis.
• Architect systems for 99.99%+ availability with active-active regional deployments and resilience patterns.
• Define SLAs/SLOs/SLIs, run Chaos Engineering experiments, and work with infra to optimize orchestration and traffic management.
• Collaborate with product/ops to translate requirements into scalable technical solutions with solid documentation.
