Job summary

UC San Diego Health’s Revenue Cycle department supports quality patient care and a healthier world. The Patient Access role pre-registers, pre-admits, and admits patients by phone or in person, collecting demographics, interpreting benefits, obtaining authorizations, and coordinating referrals across hospital units.

This on-site position requires exceptional customer service, strong MS Office skills, and knowledge of third-party payers.

Qualifications

• Three years of registration or medical front office experience, or equivalent.
• Thorough knowledge of third-party payers and medical terminology.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word).
• Strong written and verbal communication, able to convey complex ideas.
• Professionalism, credibility, commitment to high quality standards, innovation, accountability.
• Ability to interact with public including patients, visitors, staff.

Responsibilities

• Pre-registers, pre-admits, and admits patients by phone or in person.
• Review and interpret insurance benefits and obtain prior authorizations.
• Provide patient estimates and handle cash collections.
• Coordinate with public assistance programs (Medi-Cal, CCS) and Medicare requirements.
• Interact with physicians and hospital departments to ensure correct reimbursement.
