Job summary

Xcimer Energy in Denver is seeking a senior Opto-Mechanical Engineer to own mounting concepts for meter-class optics in a high-energy deep-UV laser system. You will lead mechanical design from concept through integration on the lab floor, mentoring teammates and collaborating with manufacturing and science stakeholders.

The role requires 10+ years in precision optical hardware, strong FEA (ANSYS, Abaqus, Nastran), 3D CAD (NX preferred), GD&T per ASME Y14.5, and experience with large-format

Qualifications

• Twenty-plus year optics/mechanical hardware lifecycle experience preferred.
• Demonstrated experience designing mounts and support structures for large optics (meter-class apertures).
• Experience correlating FEA to optical measurements and modal test data.
• Comfort in cleanroom, high-vacuum and high-voltage environments.

Responsibilities

• Develop mounting and support methodologies for large (meter-class), segmented mirrors and lightweight substrates.
• Architect and design trusses, weldments, optical benches, and adjustment mechanisms for high stiffness-to-mass.
• Perform STOP analyses and correlate models to measured data for pointing accuracy.
• Define vibration isolation strategies and lead modal testing with accelerometers.
• Select materials for low-CTE, thermally stable structures and validate mounting approaches.
• Design large-optic handling fixtures and procedures with contamination control in mind.
• Support metrology of mounted optics and iterate designs based on results.
• Create interface control documents and integrate designs into NX assemblies.
• Produce GD&T drawings and release through engineering change processes.
• Develop and execute assembly, alignment, and test plans in labs and cleanroom.
