Job summary

Marvel Fusion in Colorado is seeking a Mechanical/Optomechanical Engineer to lead the design of large optical mounts for high-energy, ultra-short-pulse laser systems. You will work with optical physicists and systems engineers to ensure structural stability and adjustability under demanding conditions.

Responsibilities include modal, harmonic, and PSD analyses, material selection, and integration of precision adjustment components, maintaining high eigenfrequencies and low vibration sensitivity

Qualifications

• Requires proven experience designing large optical mounts or optomechanical assemblies for high-energy laser systems.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical design, kinematics, stiffness, backlash, repeatability and alignment.
• Experience with thermal/thermo-mechanical simulation and understanding of materials properties (CTE, vacuum compatibility).

Responsibilities

• Design and optimize large optical mounts maintaining micron/sub-micron positioning and high angular stability.
• Perform modal, harmonic, and random-vibration analyses to predict performance under environmental excitation.
• Translate thermal results into optomechanical performance and evaluate mirror displacement and wavefront quality.
• Select materials and integrate precision adjustment components for robust, manufacturable designs.
• Collaborate with physicists, systems engineers, and manufacturing teams; support prototype testing and correlate FE predictions with measurements.
